Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Contractors Municipal Requirements and Codes
As of January 1, 1986, a person may not perform or offer to perform air conditioning and refrigeration work (covered under state law) unless the person holds an appropriate license issued or recognized under Chapter 1302 of the Texas Occupations Code. Consequently, all air conditioning and refrigeration contractors must be licensed by the State or hold a municipal/regional air conditioning and refrigeration license recognized by the State. Effective January 1, 2015, the Commission adopted the 2012 edition of the Uniform Mechanical Code; and the 2012 editions of the International Mechanical Code, Residential Code, and Fuel Gas Code. Contact municipalities directly for any code updates/amendments specific to their jurisdiction.
