Job Description

The License and Permit Specialist II is selected by and responsible to the Licensing Supervisor and performs licensing duties for the Licensing Division.  Work involves initial review, analysis and data entry of licensing applications and auditing of required fees for issuance of licenses; file maintenance; responding to customer and staff inquiries; disseminating information concerning agency programs and services; and may include training of new personnel. The License and Permit Specialist II is responsible for maintaining and providing statistical data to the Licensing Supervisor.  Work is performed under general supervision with limited latitude for exercising initiative and independent judgment.  Work requires frequent contact with the public, government officials and department staff.

Essential Duties

  • Receive, review and process incoming license applications. Perform data entry of applications as needed and generate letters of incomplete application as necessary. Issue applications for licensure when all requirements are met.
  • Review and process outgoing and incoming correspondence for correction and completion.
  • Communicate regulated industry Laws and Rules requirements and section procedures to the public, government officials, and department staff in a positive and professional manner in such a way as to instill confidence and trust.
  • Prepare and maintain records associated with license applications.
  • Complies with division and/or agency training requirements.
  • Keep management appropriately informed of ongoing activity and critical matters affecting the operational well-being of the agency.
  • Demonstrate a spirit of teamwork offering positive and constructive ideas, encouragement, and support of other members of the team and division staff.
  • Adhere to all TDLR Personnel Policies and perform other duties as assigned or required to maintain agency and division operations.

Minimum Requirements

One (1) year experience in the issuance of licenses, registrations, or certifications; or three (3) years of responsible administrative experience which involved office practices and procedures. Sixty (60) hours of college coursework from an accredited college or university may substitute for two years of the administrative experience requirement. Skilled in the use of software such as Windows and Word required. Knowledge of programs regulated or to be regulated by TDLR preferred. Proficiency in Spanish, Vietnamese, or Mandarin language preferred. 

Veterans, Reservists or Guardsmen with an MOS or additional duties that fall in the fields of YN- Yeoman, 0100 Basic Admin. Marine, 3A1X1- Admin., 01- Manpower and Administration or other related fields pertaining to the minimum experience requirements may meet the minimum qualifications for this position and are highly encouraged to apply.

This job is covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).  FLSA-eligible employees who work in excess of 40 hours in a workweek receive time off at a time-and-one-half rate as the primary method of compensation in lieu of cash payment.
