Changes to Incident Reporting Requirements for Motorcycle Training Schools

Effective January 1, 2024, newly adopted rules change the reporting requirements for incidents involving Motorcycle Training Schools.

Current rules state that Motorcycle Schools must report any incident (defined as โ€œAny instance where any part of a motorcycle, other than the tires or side stand, touches the ground or another objectโ€ that occurs on the training site.) The rule placed a significant burden on the Motorcycle Schools and TDLR because many of the incidents were not serious and are to be expected in normal training and in the development of new riders.

The updated rule requires Motorcycle Schools to only report each โ€œInjuryโ€ that requires medical attention beyond first aid within three (3) business days following the end of the course.

These rule changes do not exempt or change any reporting requirements Motorcycle Schools have with Curriculum Providers and only change reporting requirements to TDLR.
