Senate Bill 25, passed by the Texas Legislature in the 2025 regular session, requires the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) to adopt continuing education rules based on recommendations by the Texas Nutrition Advisory Committee.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott appointed seven members to the new Texas Nutrition Advisory Committee in December 2025.

The first Texas Nutrition Advisory Committee meeting is scheduled for January 21, 2026, and the agenda is posted on the Texas Department of State Health Services’ s website.

Licensed Dietitians are encouraged to visit the Texas Nutrition Advisory Committee’s webpage for background information, upcoming meetings, and roster details.

The bill requires that dietitians complete not more than 12 hours of continuing education for license renewal, including continuing education regarding nutrition and metabolic health.

As TDLR continues to implement this bill, we will share more details when they become available.

Big changes are coming on 1/2/25 for our Health Professions-related licensees when it comes to reporting continuing education (CE) requirements: TDLR will no longer confirm your CE credits BEFORE you renew your license. Instead, you could be selected for a random audit of your hours once you’ve renewed, so be sure to keep your records current. We’re excited to make a change that will help us issue your license faster!
