Renew a License

PEO License (Full License)

To continue operating as a Professional Employer Organization (PEO) company in this state, a PEO license must be renewed annually. To renew the PEO license, the PEO company must submit:

  1. a completed PEO Renewal Application*;
  2. a Certificate of Insurance for workers’ compensation, if the company offers or sponsors workers’ compensation;
  3. the fingerprint submissions for any new controlling person;
  4. Audited Financial Statements;
  5. any required attachments specified in the application instructions; and
  6. the required fees.

*The license renewal form will be mailed to the PEO 65 days before the license expiration date. A PEO may also obtain a copy of the license renewal form by contacting Customer Service through the webform or by phone at (800) 803-9202 (within Texas) or (512) 463-6599. Please include your license number.

Non-receipt of a license renewal notice from the department does not exempt a person from any requirements of this chapter.

The fees for license renewals received on or before the expiration date:

If there is any change to the license renewal application after submission, the PEO company must update the information provided to the Department within 45 days after any change to the information.

PEO Limited License

To continue qualification for a limited license, a person at all times while licensed must:

To continue operating as a PEO company in this state, a limited license must be renewed annually. To renew the PEO limited license, the PEO company must submit:

  1. a completed PEO Limited License Renewal Application (Form PEO 017);
  2. a Certificate of Insurance for workers’ compensation, if the applicant offers or sponsors workers’ compensation;
  3. the Audited Financial Statements
  4. any required attachments specified in the application instructions; and
  5. the required fees.

The license renewal form will be mailed to the PEO 65 days before the license expiration date. A PEO may obtain a copy of the license renewal form by contacting Customer Service through the webform or by phone at (800) 803-9202 (within Texas) or (512) 463-6599. Please include your license number.

Non-receipt of a license renewal notice from the department does not exempt a person from any requirements of this chapter.

The fees for limited license renewals received on or before the expiration date: $300.

Expired Licenses and Late Renewals

If a company’s PEO license or PEO limited license has expired, the company may be able to late renew the license depending on how long the license has been expired.

See the fee schedule below and the New License Application Instructions Form - PEO 001 for the list of the required documents. Important Note: All renewal fees are non-refundable.

250 - 749 assigned employees $600 $750
751 or more assigned employees $975 $1250
Limited License $375 $450

If your license has been expired for more than 18 months but less than three years, you may submit for approval a written request stating the reason your license should be renewed. Submit the Request to Executive Director for Expired License Renewal Form - LIC 003 with a fee in the amount equal to two times the normal renewal fee.

If your license has been expired for three years or more, you may not renew your license. You must re-apply for a new license.

You may be subject to enforcement actions, including administrative penalties and sanctions for operating with an expired license or operating without a license.

If your renewal application is post marked before your expiration date, it is considered a timely renewal.
