Apply for a New License as a Military Spouse

You must apply by mail to receive military spouse benefits. Online applications are not supported at this time.

If you hold a license from another state or territory, please also see Transfer an Out of State License, and Work in Texas with an Out of State License.

By applying as a military spouse, you are eligible to have your license application expedited. You may still be required to take and pass any applicable examinations required of your license and pay the associated fees.

Step 1: Determine Your License Requirements

Step 2: Completing the Military Supplemental Application

Download and complete the Military Supplemental Application Form (PDF).

Please include the following documentation for both the spouse and the servicemember as evidence of your military status:

  • Spouse - A dependent ID card (DD-1173) or a copy of your marriage license
  • Servicemember - DD-214, NGB-22, or military orders with the servicemember’s name

Include these documents along with your completed application materials.

Step 3: Complete the License Application Form

You’ll also need to complete an application form for the license type that you are applying for.

To take advantage of military benefits, you must apply by mail.

Some license types may require that you submit proof of education, training, or work history. You’ll need to include this information as well as any other required documentation with your completed application form.

Be sure to include the non-refundable application fee with your materials.

Step 4: Submit the Completed Application Packet

After you have completed the license application form, the military supplemental application, and gathered your supporting documentation, you’ll be ready to submit your application materials to TDLR.

Simply mail the completed application forms along with the non-refundable application fee to:

Please be sure to place the military supplemental application on top of your license application form to ensure that your paperwork is routed appropriately.
