Renew an Expired Texas License for Military Spouses

You must apply by mail to receive military spouse benefits. Online applications are not supported at this time.

Benefits Available to You

If your license expired within the past 5 years, and you have held the same Texas license you are applying for within the past 5 years:

  • You will not be required to take a licensing exam
  • Your renewal application will be expedited

Step 1: Understand and Meet the Renewal Requirements

Select your license type to see the renewal requirements.

Note: You’ll need to complete all renewal requirements before sending in your renewal application. Some license types may require that you complete continuing education hours before you can renew.

If your license type is not listed here, please contact us for assistance.

Step 2: Complete Your Renewal Application Form

To begin the renewal process, download and complete the paper renewal application form for your license type.

You must apply by mail to receive benefits of a military spouse.

Step 3: Include the Military Supplemental Application

Download and complete the Military Supplemental Application Form (PDF).

Please include the following documentation as evidence of your military status:

  • Servicemembers - A copy of military orders showing proof of active duty status
  • Veterans - Documents showing proof of veteran status (such as a DD-214 or NGB-22)

You'll need to include this form along with your completed application materials.

Step 4: Submit the Completed Application Packet

After you've completed the renewal form and the military supplemental application, you’ll be ready to submit your application materials to TDLR.

If your license expired while you were serving on active duty, you'll be exempt from paying the renewal fee.

If your license did not expire while you were on active duty, you must pay the renewal fee.

Mail the completed application forms along with the non-refundable application fee (if required) to:

Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation
ATTN Military Licensing Unit
P.O. Box 12157
Austin, TX 78711-2157

Please be sure to place the military supplemental application on top of your license application form to ensure that your paperwork is routed appropriately.
