Athletic Trainers Exam Information

Written and Practical Exams

The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation’s (TDLR’s) mission is to honor the trust of all Texans, safeguard the public, and provide a fair and efficient licensing and regulatory environment at the lowest possible cost. To this end, TDLR has contracted third party vendor, PSI, to develop and administer written theory and practical skills licensing examinations for the Athletic Trainer Program. Beginning November 1, 2016, TDLR will offer the Athletic Trainer written examination in Abilene, Amarillo, Arlington, Austin, Corpus Christi, Dallas, El Paso, Fort Worth, Harlingen, Houston, Lubbock, Midland, San Antonio, Tyler and Waco on a day to be scheduled by the exam candidate. Once you meet all written examination eligibility requirements, you will receive an eligibility postcard from PSI. The postcard contains instructions for registering and scheduling your examination. You should review the Candidate Information Bulletin (CIB) which provides the exam content outline, exam fee payment information, exam site addresses, and detailed information about PSI’s examination administration procedures.

The practical examination is scheduled to be administered on April 30, 2017 in Arlington, Houston, Lubbock, and San Antonio. The deadline to register is Saturday, April 22,2017. Once you meet all practical examination eligibility requirements, you will receive an eligibility postcard from PSI. The postcard contains instructions for registering and scheduling your examination. You should review the Candidate Information Bulletin (CIB) which provides the exam content outline, exam fee payment information, exam site addresses, and detailed information about PSI’s examination administration procedures.

Jurisprudence Exams

The Texas Athletic Trainer Jurisprudence Examination content is based on the state laws, rules, and regulations relating to the practice of athletic trainers. All applicants for initial licensure must submit proof of completing the jurisprudence examination at the time they submit their Texas Athletic Trainer License Application. The issuance date of the jurisprudence certificate must not be more than six months prior to the license application submittal date. Applicable fees are paid directly to the vendor for the jurisprudence examination.

Please note, upon paying the jurisprudence exam registration fee, your exam must be completed within 30 days. After 30 days, your fee and registration will expire and your exam will be invalidated. To take the jurisprudence exam again, you will need to re-register and pay a new fee.
