Out of State Applicants

Individuals Licensed in Another State

Texas does not currently offer licensure reciprocity from other states. It is not possible to "transfer" an athletic trainer license from another state to Texas.

Persons who hold a baccalaureate or post-baccalaureate degree may qualify to apply for a new Texas license under the Board of Certification and/or Out-Of-State Licensee method by providing proof of meeting at least one of the following requirements:

For more information on applying for a new license under this method, see the How to Apply for a New Athletic Trainer License page.

Examination Requirements

All applicants will be responsible for completing the jurisprudence exam (see Athletic Trainers Examination Requirements) before applying for an athletic trainer license in Texas. The jurisprudence exam must be completed no more than six months prior to the date that the license application was submitted.

Applicants must also take the state licensing written and practical exams, See the Athletic Trainers Examination Requirements page for complete details.

Exemption from Written and Practical Exams

If you have successfully completed the examination administered by the Board of Certification, you will not be required to complete the state licensing written and practical exams. To be eligible for this exemption, you must provide a copy of your Board of Certification test results.
