Continuing Education Requirements for Instructors

Required Coursework

You must complete at least one department-approved instructor continuing education seminar during each licensing period every two years to renew your license.

Continuing education seminars must be completed within the term of the license being renewed. For example, if a license expires on January 1, 2022, the continuing education seminar taken to renew that license must have been taken between January 1, 2020 and January 1, 2022.

East Texas A&M University offers Continuing Education Workshops that suffice for the CE requirement to renew the Court-Ordered Instructor license.

Alternative Continuing Education

Alcohol Education Programs for Minors, DWI Education Program, DWI Intervention Program

If you are a licensed chemical dependency counselor, licensed professional counselor, licensed psychologist, licensed psychiatrist, or licensed social worker, you may complete 20 hours of continuing education that is directly alcohol-related, in lieu of attending the department-sponsored continuing education seminar.

Drug Offense Education Program

If you are a licensed chemical dependency counselor, licensed professional counselor, licensed psychologist, licensed psychiatrist, or licensed social worker you may complete 20 hours of continuing education that is directly drug-related, in lieu of attending the department-sponsored continuing education seminar.

Multiple Endorsements

Instructors who hold endorsements in multiple court-ordered programs will only need to enroll and complete one continuing education seminar.

Continuing education hours obtained in a department-sponsored court-ordered program instructor continuing education seminar may be used to fulfill the continuing education requirement of another court-ordered program endorsement, as long as the seminar occurs during the current licensure period and as long as the instructor pays for each endorsement.

Changes to Program Curriculum

If substantial intervening changes are made to the program curriculum, or significant updates are required to curriculum material, instructors may be required to attend additional department-sponsored continuing education seminars or special meetings for which the department sends notice.

Reporting Continuing Education

Your renewal will not be held up by a CE audit. Continuing Education Audits now take place after a licensee renews. They can occur anytime during your license period. You will receive a letter via email that has a due date for you to comply. Use your online account to upload certificates or other documentation.

Here is a tutorial on how to use your account to comply.
