Renew an Instructor Certification
Continuing Education
Each instructor endorsement has continuing education requirements that must be met before the instructor certification may be renewed. Continuing education may be completed at any point during the certification period, beginning immediately after certification is issued.
You must comply with the continuing education audit process, if selected
Application and Fee
When you are ready to renew your instructor certification, complete and submit an online application form and include the non-refundable fee of $40.
Begin Your Renewal
You must successfully pass a criminal history background check performed by the department as part of the renewal process.
If you are unable to renew online, you may also renew by mail by subitting a completed Court Ordered Instructor Renewal Application (PDF).
Expired Certifications
If an instructor allows their certification to expire, prior to submission of a completed renewal application and completion of renewal requirements, the instructor must reapply and successfully complete the applicable initial Instructor training course again.
An Instructor may not instruct any Offender Education Programs with an expired Instructor certification.
Applicants with Criminal Convictions
Please see the Guidelines for License Applicants with Criminal Convictions, which describe the process by which TDLR determines whether a criminal conviction renders an applicant an unsuitable candidate for the license, or whether a conviction warrants revocation or suspension of a license previously granted.
Certified Instructors are required to report, in writing, any felony or misdemeanor convictions.
