New Continuing Education Rules Adopted for Hearing Instrument Fitters and Dispenser Program

On April 9, 2025, the Texas Commission of Licensing and Regulation adopted new Hearing Instrument Fitters and Dispenser rules that go into effect May 15, 2025.

The following changes were made to the program:

  • New definitions were created for online, in-person, and virtual courses.
  • The department will no longer approve Continuing Education Courses (CE).
  • A continuing education provider must be registered by the department to offer or provide CE courses for the Hearing Instrument and Dispensers program.
  • CE hours for an apprentice permit holder were reduced from 20 to 10, allowing no more than 5 hours completed through online courses.
  • Courses must be completed by a department registered continuing education provider.
  • Provider registration will now be valid for two years.
  • The provider registration renewal fee is now $400.00

If you are a hearing fitter provider and have pending courses already scheduled, please continue with those courses as scheduled.

For more information about this rule package, please watch the April 9, 2025 Commission Meeting. Additional Hearing Fitter Provider and Course information will be provided at a later date. Please  subscribe to receive email notifications so you won’t miss out!
