Apply for a New Dyslexia Therapist License

A licensed dyslexia therapist may practice in a school, learning center, clinic, or private practice setting.


Educational Requirements

To be eligible for a dyslexia therapist license, you must hold at least a master's degree from an accredited public or private institution of higher education.


Training Program Completion

You must complete an International Multisensory Structured Language Education Council (IMSLEC) accredited multisensory structured language education training program to meet the training qualifications for a dyslexia therapist license.

Proof of Completion

With your application, you must submit proof of successful completion of an approved training program accredited by the International Multisensory Structured Language Education Council (IMSLEC) that includes, at a minimum:

Examination Requirement

Before a license may be issued, all applicants must pass the ALTA Competency Examination for MSLE, Therapist Level. If you do not hold a current certification, you must contact ALTA for instructions to register for the exam.

Applying online for a new license from TDLR is easy and secure. Online applications are immediately sent to the Licensing Division for processing and don’t have to go through additional departments for sorting and payment processing.
