Re: ISIS Aramid Rope Monitoring Device
Dear Mr. Dye:
On December 19, 2007, I accompanied members of your organization to the Villas on 6th Street, Austin, Texas, where a test rope monitoring system was installed in my presence. Based on my observations at the job site (Decal 059886) and subsequent conversations and information received, there appears to be no reason to prohibit the installation of this device for the K-Core ropes on the ISIS elevators in the State of Texas. You therefore may proceed with all due haste to install this device on each ISIS elevator in the State of Texas. This work is to be classified as an alteration and will require an inspection before the units are returned or placed into service. The inspectors shall be provided with written inspection procedures at the time of each inspection.
Please be advised that for the units that are newly installed and were not in public operation on 10-23-2007, a daily inspection of the ropes shall be provided in addition to the rope monitors. For all other units, a twice monthly inspection of the ropes shall be provided in addition to the rope monitors. These inspection time periods shall remain in effect until such time as the permanent corrective action has been completed.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.
Sincerely,
Lawrence Taylor
