Data-informed Inspections

• Specialists may use data such as prior warnings, FCIC notifications, outstanding RFIs and locations in the same zip codes of prior complaints to identify additional businesses needing inspection.
• Facilities with common ownership, along travel routes or in the region of complaint sites if they match any risk-based criteria.

Follow-Up Criteria

• Facilities identified during inspections with recurring issues or missing documentation may be scheduled for re-inspection.

Statutory Authority

Under Texas Occupations Code, Chapter 2310, the agency is authorized to conduct risk-based inspections of weighing or measuring devices used in commerce. These inspections are necessary to verify proper device registration, accuracy, and compliance with applicable regulations and further consumer protection.
