TDLR has contracted third party vendor, PSI, to develop and administer the mold assessment technician, mold assessment consultant, and mold remediation contractor examinations for the Mold Program. For information about the PSI testing program or to register, go to https://test-takers.psiexams.com/tdlnrp.

Exam Eligibility

After submitting your application, TDLR staff will verify that you meet all eligibility requirements. Upon confirmation, you will receive an eligibility postcard from PSI. The postcard contains instructions for registering and scheduling an examination.

Registering for an Exam

Eligible candidates may register for exams online using the PSI website:

You may also register for an exam via telephone by calling PSI at (833) 333-4741.

Fee Schedule

All fees are payable to TDLR's third-party vendor, PSI.

Candidate Information Bulletin

You should thoroughly review the Candidate Information Bulletin (PDF) which provides helpful information about the exam content (including the number of questions, the time allotted to complete the exam, and a list of reference materials).

The Candidate Information Bulletin also lists exam fees, locations, and detailed information about PSI’s examination procedures.

Note: Effective June 1, 2019:

Identification Requirements

You must provide a valid and current government-issued identification to take the exam.

Acceptable forms of identification include a driver’s license, state ID, or passport, which bears your printed name, photograph, signature, date of birth, and expiration date. Identification provided must match all information provided by TDLR to PSI upon eligibility. If your ID does not contain the required information, you may be asked to provide other forms of valid identification to confirm your identity. A digital copy of your identification documentation will be taken upon check in, and stored with your personal data.

An expired driver’s license will be accepted only if accompanied by a VALID Texas Department of Public Safety temporary permit. Likewise, the temporary permits must be accompanied by the expired DPS driver’s license.

Address or Name Changes

If your name or address changes after you have scheduled an exam, you will need to contact TDLR and deliver a written notification of the change. Do not attempt to take the exam until you have received notice from TDLR that your name or address changes have been updated.

PSI will not allow you to take the exam if your ID does not match the information provided.

Exam Results and Failures

Your grade will be handed to you at the test center by the PSI proctor after you have completed the test. The passing score for the written exam is 70% or higher.

If you fail the written exam, you may schedule a retake with TDLR's third-party vendor, PSI, within 24-48 hours of your failed exam. There is no limit to the number of times you can retake the written exam.

Your license application is valid for one year and you may retake the exam until your application expires. When your application expires, you will need to submit a new application before you can retake the exam.
