Required Equipment for Establishments
Requirements for All Establishments
In addition to complying with the general health and safety requirements, establishments of all types must have the following:
Facility Requirements

Clean floors, walls, ceilings, shelves, furniture, furnishings, and plumbing fixtures (including toilets and wash basins) kept in good repair
- Any cracks, holes, or other similar disrepair not readily accessible for cleaning must be repaired or filled to create a smooth, washable surface

Flooring that is non-porous or non-absorbent in all areas where services are offered
- includes restrooms and areas where chemicals are mixed or where water may splash
- anti-slip floor coverings are exempt from this requirement
- A sink with hot and cold running water in an area where services are performed and supplies are dispensed

At least one restroom located on or near the premises of the establishment
- For public safety, chemical supplies must not be stored in the restroom
Equipment
- A suitable receptacle for used towels/linen
- A wet disinfectant soaking container, large enough to fully immerse tools and implements
- A clean, dry, debris-free storage area
- At least one covered trash container
- Adequate ventilation, air filtration, and input of fresh air to keep chemical fumes away from the public area
- If providing manicure or pedicure nail services, an autoclave, dry heat sterilizer or ultraviolet sanitizer
Signage and Postings
Establishments must display in a conspicuous place clearly visible to the public:
Laws and Rules Book
Per section 83.22 of the Barbering and Cosmetology Administrative Rules, establishments must obtain a copy of the current Barbering and Cosmetology Laws and Rules Book. The fee for each copy is $14. This book must be available for reference in your place of business at all times.
You must comply with all applicable laws and rules, paying special note to the health and safety requirements and the responsibilities of establishments.
Full-Service Establishments and Mini-Establishments
Establishments that offer all services must provide the following equipment for each license holder present who provides services:
- Working station
- Styling or barber chair
- Shampoo bowls in a sufficient quantity
Manicure Establishments
Manicure establishments must provide the following equipment for each license holder present who provides services:
- Manicure station with sufficient lighting
- Manicure chair or stool
- Client chair for each manicure station
Esthetician Establishments
Esthetician establishments must provide the following equipment for each license holder present who provides services:
- Facial bed or chair
- Mirror
Manicurist/Esthetician Establishments
Combination manicurist/esthetician establishments must provide the following equipment:
- Manicure station with sufficient lighting
- Manicure chair or stool
- Client chair for each manicure station
- Facial bed or chair
- Mirror
Eyelash Extension Establishments
Eyelash extension establishments must provide the following equipment for each license holder present who provides services:
- Facial bed, chair, or massage table that allows the consumer to lie completely flat
- Lamp
- Stool or chair
- Mirror
Hair Weaving Establishments
Hair weaving establishments must provide the following equipment for each licensee present and providing services:
- Work station
- Styling chair
- Chair dryer or handheld dryer
Shampoo bowls in a sufficient quantity to provide hair weaving services
Mobile Establishments
Mobile establishments must meet the requirements listed above for the specific types of services that they provide, in addition to the requirements for all establishments.
Additionally, mobile establishments must meet certain safety requirements to protect public safety and avoid injury. You may also choose to install a GPS tracking device on your mobile establishment, rather than submitting a weekly itinerary.
